Independence Day

Jul 24, 2008

Indie Music is a helluva grind, so every now and then I’ll do my best to bring you an artist that might be on the cusp of bigger things. The video is tight and was made for ZERO dollars. In the indie scene a talented team goes a long way. Big City Phil, once had a deal on the horizon with Beans… yea that Beans, until Beanie got sent away last time. Since then he’s been grinding out the mixtape scene and doing showcases. And this video serves as his latest offering.

May 6, 2008

This is some fresh Left Coast shit (werd to Ifux) by way of TI$A, the former front man of underground group Sa-Ra, my boy linked me yesterday. For a better Quality video click here.

This election, whether you subscribe to the new hope or not, has certainly been a breeding ground for political sentiment.

I let this shit rock 5 times back to back.. it’s an auditory delight.

Notorious B.I.G.

So it’s been 11 years since the passing of Christopher Wallace a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie Smalls, Biggie or depending on where you stand.. The GOAT.

To honor this icon of both music and urban culture, a movie is being made to bring to life.. the story of.. his life? In any event people ranging from Sean Kingston to… Sean Kingston have been alluded to as playing the notorious one. In the end however only one name remained… that wasn’t Sean Kingston.

Jamal Woolard a.k.a. Gravy, the Brooklyn born rapper who actually resembles BIG. I mean C’MON! The Stoop takes a look at 10 actors who could possibly portray Mr. Wallace a smidge better. (more…)

So V-Day is finally upon us… To some the most dreaded holiday of the year.. to others the most joyous.. Imma let you know I don’t care either way. To some it’s about proposing at the Eifel Tower in Paris, for others knockin down an exclusive jumpoff. Some people are reminded they’re running the rat race solo and others are reminded that they have to get their
significant other, whom they can’t stand, a dozen roses at 49.95 a pop. Remember the grass is always greener on the other side.

This post however is about none of that. This post is about songs that in one way or another take a different spin on the word love, whether through metaphor, simile or onomatopoeia. You got a long work day and I got 14 good songs here for one reason or another. Kick ya feet up, click and listen.

Big Pun

I remember when I picked up the news paper and read the cover story. “Rapper Big Pun Dead” I was shocked. When I went on to read the cause of death I was saddened. When I went on to see the video of him pistol whipping his wife I was disturbed.

We find icons to never be as perfect as we’d imagine. Understanding that it is unfair for us to expect perfection from a human being we accept these flaws however numerous as the contradiction of man. Despite all these fatal flaws Big Pun was an icon in Hip Hop and the Latin Community. It’s been 8 years, so here are a few gems in my opinion.
