The Urban Dictionary defines Swagger Jacker as

“A person who steals the flow, ideas, swagger or style of someone else” While I understand Hip Hop is about emulation and innovation of styles and trends, cases can be built that showcase the opposite.

“Fuck the flow ya’ll jackin our slang” - Hov

Hi Hater is a term that dates back to Joe Budden, but represents an ideology that reaches as far back as the origins of humankind. Hip Hop has however personified the term “Don’t Hate” and gave it a whole new meaning. It’s gotten to the point where people drink haterade, wear hater blockers and avoid hateration in preference of holleration.

In other words muthafuckas beat a dying horse to death. It’s gotten to the point people that don’t have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of claim someone is hating on them, trying to ruin them or praying on their downfall. With the ideology preceding Hip Hop, but remaining prevalent in the relatively new music, Regular Joe simply threw caution to the wind and said ‘Hi Hater’.

Eventually that Idea became a secondary movement to being hated on. Where you greet your haters on equal terms and encourage them not to hate, but rather congratulate you on your presumed, assumed or resumed success.

Eventually a young artist out of the musically ailing NYC area decided to put his stamp on the idea in form of song and presented it to the masses. And that artist was Maino? NO. Rather it was an artist by the name of Young Sosa out of Washington Heights NY. who dropped a song of the same concept and name about 10 months earlier!

Now wait a second? Do you mean to tell me people in the music industry are capable of ‘Swagger Jacking’

*Grabs magic 8 ball*

*Ask again later*

Sure we all heard rule ‘1080… record company people are shady’, but in this day and age where some record companies are experiencing a 100% return rate on shipped CD’s.. basically meaning if they send out 100 CD’s they get sent back 100 CD’s… they have to innovate on ways to make money.

The term microwavable music has been made very popular of late, most notably by Jiggaman himself. As these labels hemorrhage cash, especially in the genre of Hip Hop in which the ‘get it by any means’ mentality has been instilled since we were letting The Tape Rock Till The Tape Popped, artists and labels alike have sought ways to make marketable music (in most cases you can replace marketable with disposable) and ways in which to make money off that very same music.

The D4L, to MIMS to Soulja Boy(unless he makes another hit.. I know I know) set are the new wave of this Major Label desperation.

Lack of innovation and refusal to adopt new mediums such as DA INTERNETZ has proven to be a bigger faux pas than previously thought by ‘industry insiders’…

Little known secret… most ‘industry insiders’ true depth of knowledge or insight regarding the music industry and how to harness the new media isn’t as much as you think their position would mandate them to have. Or in other words.. That and 2 dollars will get you on the train.

So I say all that to say this..

Is it feasible that in an effort to produce a song they think will be a hit (even though maino’s version was heavily panned on a multitude of sites) They might have browsed around demo’s or a myspace page and said, you know what.. I could fuck with this concept and homie is a Dominican Cat from uptown.. No one will even notice? I wonder..

It isn’t a case of ‘Surviving the times’ sounding identical, but concepts are ideas and good ideas are invaluable while bad ideas are worthless.. even if the execution isn’t on point.

Here is the video.. you decide

It might seem like a matter of opinion, but the general voice thus far has been “Homie got swagger jacked”
